DURHAM 1, ST. CLAIR 0

OSHAWA, Ont. - The Durham College men's soccer team is heading to the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) championship for the first time since 1999 as the Lords earned a 1-0 victory over the nationally ranked St. Clair Saints on Saturday evening.

Sasa Vukoje (Etobicoke, Ont.) scored the game's lone goal, as he received a crossing pass from freshman Tevin Noel-Peterson (Whitby, Ont.) and put a left-footed one-timer off the back right post in the 55th minute. St. Clair goalkeeper Kyle Vizirakis had no chance to stop it because of Vukoje's quick release.

Jonathan Cordington (Courtice, Ont.) got the start in goal for Durham and had an outstanding match, stopping 11 Saints shots on target. With St. Clair pressing for the game tying goal, Cordington and the Lords defence stood strong and preserved the shutout. This was only the second time this year that St. Clair was held off the scoresheet.

Durham joins Algonquin and Sheridan in the OCAA final four, as the trio awaits the result of the Cambrian/Humber quarter-final match to determine the last qualifier. Durham will take on the winner of that match in the semi-finals on Friday, Oct. 24. Niagara College will play host to the OCAA Championship from Oct. 24-25.

From 2002 to 2007, Durham failed to reach the semi-finals with six straight losses in the quarters. 1999 was the last time the Lords reached the final four, where they won an OCAA bronze medal.
