ALEX ASMIS REMEMBRANCE

ALEX ASMIS REMEMBRANCE

It is with great sadness that the Thunder acknowledge the passing of one of our own. The following is a message from Ian Campbell, the Athletic Communication & Events Coordinator:

Yesterday was a terrible day for the Thunder family. When my radio alarm clicked on in the morning, the lead story was about a car accident near the college, in an area largely populated by students. My hairs were immediately raised but I hoped for the best. My hopes were dashed when I found out that the Thunder had lost the captain of our men's soccer team and valuable part of the Athletics department, Alex Asmis. In addition to being a standout athlete (last year's MVP for his team and our male athlete of the year) and a CCAA Academic All-Canadian, Alex was a big contributor to our Campus Rec program and he worked the front desk out at the dome. He was a four-year veteran of Algonquin Athletics and was as fully integrated into the fabric of our culture as someone can be. His voice was bold and loud and so was his personality, and it was hard not to love him for it. You will be missed, Alex.

Should any Thunder athletes, Algonquin students or staff require support as they deal with the loss of this key member of our community, please contact the Athletics office. The college has resources available to support you and we all want to help.

The family will receive friends at the Carp Chapel of Tubman Funeral Homes, 115 Rivington Street, on Tuesday, April 11, 2017 from 1 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. A Funeral Service will be held at St. Paul's United Church, 3760 Carp Road, Carp on Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at 1p.m. Interment Dunrobin United Cemetery.
