MOHAWK 2, LAMBTON 0

ANCASTER, Ont. - A goal in each half did the job for the Mohawk men's soccer team, in a 2-0 opening day OCAA triumph over Lambton at Redeemer, Saturday Sept. 9.

A 20-yard Justin Dargue blast sailed past a flat-footed Lions' goalkeeper and into the upper corner after 38 minutes.

"They gave me some space at the top of the box and I took my opportunity to shoot the ball," Dargue said. "Luckily it went in."

In the second half, Jakob Lalicon fired home after an excellent cross from Alex McClung, in the 78th minute.

Philip Lucek recorded the shutout.

It was the first game as Mountaineers' head coach for Carmine Lancia, who felt his players were a little bit nervous to start, but when they settled down, they started to play.

"Lambton was well organized defensively and made it difficult for us, (but) I believe we created more scoring opportunities and I think the result was pretty fair," Lancia said.

Mohawk's next game will be at Niagara Wednesday (Sept. 13) at 6 p.m.
