THE WEEK THAT WAS IN OCAA MEN'S SOCCER

The reigning national champion Humber Hawks started their season on the right foot on Sept. 10 with a 4-2 victory at Fanshawe. Santiago Muniz scored what was ultimately the game-winner in the 75th minute of the match.

The Hawks have won each of the last three OCAA championships, five of the last six and nine of the last 11, winning the national title six times during that span.

Humber's forever rivals, the Sheridan Bruins, have won two straight to open the 2022 campaign, outscoring their opponents a combined 11-1. Rahim Thorpe scored all four goals in Sheridan's 4-1 win over Redeemer on Sept. 10.

Rookie Zain Nizam scored the winning goal and the final goal in St. Clair's convincing 6-0 win over Mohawk on Sept. 9.

The Lambton Lions scored three unanswered goals to down Mohawk 3-1 on Sept. 10. This was a key win for the team after going 0-6 in competition last season.

St. Lawrence surged out of the gates in the north with wins at Sault and Cambrian this past weekend. St. Lawrence outscored its opponents 11-1, with Jacob Ball scoring five times.

Algonquin likely passed St. Lawrence somewhere on the Trans-Canada 17, picking up two wins in the same locales. The Wolves are playing their first OCAA sanctioned games since 2019. The Wolves and Surge will see each other again on Sept. 15 in an early season match for East Division supremacy.

Seneca picked up its first victory of the season on Sept. 13 on the strength of a hat trick by Tyler Cleghorn. Seneca defeated Fleming 5-0.

Skylar Grey scored in the 90th minute to give Durham an important point in the standings against George Brown on Sept. 11, the match result being a 2-2 draw. That same day, Adam Hobby scored a pair of goals for Centennial in a 3-1 win over Fleming.

The Donut Box hosted the Showdown in Steeltown on Sept. 14, with Redeemer earning a 5-0 win over Mohawk. Rayan Barbosa scored two times in the match.
