The Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) is pleased to
announce the 2005 women’s soccer league all-stars and major
award winners. The season, will wrap-up this weekend in Ottawa, ON
as Algonquin College is hosting the Championship and announced the
major award winners last night at the awards banquet.
Nicole Stephens of the Durham College Lords was named the OCAA
Women’s Soccer Player of the Year as she helped lead the
Lords to an undefeated 10-0-0-season record. Stephens, a standout
defensive player was also named to the league all-star team and was
recognized as a CCAA All-Canadian. For her efforts, Stephens will
go forward as a 2005 CCAA National Women’s Soccer Player of
the Year, to be announced at Langara College, BC at the CCAA Soccer
National Championship.
“Nicole is among the top defensive players in the
OCAA,” said Durham head coach Vaso Vujanovic. “ She is
an excellent all around player that can play any position, if
required. A very skillful and smart player, she is one of our key
players on the back line.”
Leading the league in scoring, Durham College’s Megan Jana
Cryderman was recognized as the League Scoring Champion. Cryderman
netted an impressive twelve goals in seven games for her team (1.71
GPG). Melissa Elie of Fanshawe and Connie Tamburello of Humber
(Etobicoke) were the West Scoring Champions with 1.12 GPG.
