WATTS SETS SINGLE SEASON SCORING RECORD

Katie Watts has wasted little time in making a name for herself in the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) as the Durham College freshman scored three goals in her match verses Loyalist College on Wednesday to break the single-season scoring record. Watts, an Oshawa native, now has 19 goals in eight games this season, surpassing the former record of 18 goals that had been held for 17 seasons.

Denise Morey of St. Lawrence College originally set the benchmark of 18 goals in eight games during the 1991 OCAA varsity season. Durham College standout Laura Dixon later matched that total in 2003, scoring 18 goals in eight games.

It has been an unbelievable season for the rookie enroute to establishing the new single-season high. Watts has scored three or more goals in four games and has found the back of the net in seven of eight games. She will also have the opportunity to add to her record goal total as the Lords still have three games remaining in the regular season.

Watt's record breaking season adds another accomplishment to the books for Vaso Vujanovic’s Durham Lords. Durham has won four of the last five OCAA provincial titles, as well as winning a bronze medal at the 2007 CCAA national championship.

Individually, the Lords have had six CCAA All-Canadians in the last five years. Also, in the last five seasons, the OCAA Payer of the Year award has come from Durham College (2004 -Laura Dixon, 2005 - Kara Campbell, 2006 - Nicole Stephens, 2007 - Amanda Durno and 2008 - Katie Szeghalmi), a feat that had never been achieved in OCAA soccer.

The OCAA League Scoring Champion has also worn the Green and Gold for the past three seasons as Jana Cryderman took home top honours in 2005, Brittany Micucci in 2006 and Katie Szeghalmi in 2007.
