It may have been a chilly, rain soaked Friday morning, but the
Fanshawe women’s soccer team managed to put a little sunshine
in their day, defeating the Sheridan Bruins 1-0 at the Belairdirect
OCAA Women’s Soccer Championship. Nicole Carriere, a first
year rookie for the Falcons, scored the lone goal in the first half
of the match, despite being hampered by the rain and slick
conditions.
The inclement weather did not appear to deter the Falcons
mid-fielder Erin Hemming either, as she was recognized as the
Player of the Game for her tireless energy and multi-directional
play. Bruins defender, Lisa May was also acknowledged as the
Bruins’ Player of the Game for her superb defense and ability
to contain the Fanshawe’s offensive strikes.
With thoughts of warmth in the minds of all the female athletes,
tomorrow’s Bronze Medal Game will kick off at 9:00am at the
Ontario Soccer Centre, with the Sheridan Bruins sporting their
white and blue uniforms. They will square off against Humber who
will be wearing their blue and white colours.
