CAMBRIAN, CONESTOGA, DURHAM ADVANCE IN WOMEN'S SOCCER

PETERBOROUGH, Ont. - Cambrian College’s first-ever OCAA women’s soccer playoff game was a success as the Golden Shield defeated host Fleming (Peterborough) 3-2 following penalty kicks on Saturday to advance to the next round.

Cambrian battled back from a pair of one-goal deficits, first in regulation, then in overtime to force a shootout.

Amy Stewart (Sudbury, Ont.) scored and regulation and Kristy Mancuso (Sault St. Marie, Ont.) hit the clutch goal in overtime for the Golden Shield.

Dena Tackoor (Whitby, Ont.) and Mallory Minnema (Perth, Ont.) both scored for Fleming.

Cambrian (3-3-2, 1-0 playoffs) will now travel to undefeated Humber College (7-0-1) for an OCAA quarter-final game.

Conestoga 1, Redeemer 0

At Conestoga College, first-year midfielder Candice Figueroa (Cambridge, Ont.) picked a great time to score her first OCAA goal as the host Condors edged Redeemer University College 1-0 on Saturday.

The game was a continuation of the regular season finale played between these two clubs which ended in a scoreless draw last Wednesday.

Conestoga (4-2-2, 1-0 playoffs) will now visit Seneca College (6-2-0) in the next round to decide which team advances to the OCAA championship tournament.

Durham 4, La Cite 1

At Durham College, second-year midfielder Taryn Nicholson (Newcastle, Ont.) scored a pair of goals to lift the host Lords to a 4-1 playoff victory over La Cite Collegiale on Sunday.

Also scoring for the Lords were first-year midfielder Erin Lennox (Whitby, Ont.) and fourth-year veteran Jennifer Sheehan (Whitby, Ont.). Scoring La Cite’s lone goal was second-year striker Sylvie Nghabe.

Durham (5-1-2, 1-0 playoffs) advances to the round of eight with a match against undefeated and defending OCAA champion Fanshawe College (6-0-2).
