The Niagara College Department of Athletics are very pleased to
welcome Sandra Moretuzzo as its new head coach of
the Niagara College Knights Women's Soccer team.
Moretuzzo, comes to Niagara after serving three years as an
Assistant Coach with the McMaster University Marauders Women's
Soccer team in Hamilton.
Before starting to coach soccer in 2001, Moretuzzo enjoyed a very
successful collegiate career while playing for McMaster from
1999-2002. In three of her four seasons, she was named a first team
All-Star in the Ontario University Athletics (OUA). In 2000, she
led the OUA in scoring and was third in the country. While serving
as captain of the Marauders in 2001, she earned Canadian
Interuniversity Sport (CIS) All-Canadian honours.
Moretuzzo's first coaching position was with Cardinal Newman
Catholic Secondary School in Hamilton, where she served as Head
Coach from 2001-2004.
For the past five years, she has been the Head Coach of the Junior
Boys Soccer team at St. Thomas More Catholic Secondary School in
Hamilton, where she is also a Physical and Health Education
teacher.
Moretuzzo, graduated with a Honours Bachelor of Kinesiology from
McMaster University in 2003, and a Bachelor of Education and
Certificate in Entrepreneurial Studies from Brock University in
2004.
In 2011, she was named Assistant Coach of the Hamilton Sparta
Women's Provincial Soccer team of the Ontario Women's Soccer League
(OWSL).
The Hamilton, Ontario native takes over from Frank
DeChellis who stepped down after his third season in
2010.
"We are very excited to add a coach of Sandra's qualifications,"
said Ray Sarkis, Coordinator of Athletics and
Recreation at Niagara College. "Women's soccer is growing in Canada
and throughout the world, and we see Sandra as someone who can take
our Women's Soccer program to the next level."
"I am extremely excited about having the opportunity to coach the
Niagara College Knights Women's Soccer team and am looking forward
to the start of the season," comments Moretuzzo." My objective is
to develop this relatively new soccer program into a strong
competitor within the OCAA and CCAA. I plan on achieving this
through the setting of high standards and expectations in academics
and in athletics."
