HUMBER NEW NO. 1 IN OCAA WOMEN’S SOCCER RANKINGS

TORONTO - The top two ranked teams in Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) women's soccer squared off this past weekend, with the final result shaking up this week's rankings.

1. Humber Hawks (Last Week - 2)
(Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association Rank - 2)

In a rematch of last year's OCAA gold medal game, defending champion Humber (4-0-0) edged Fanshawe (3-1-0) by a 3-2 score at home on Saturday. The result puts Humber on top of the OCAA West standings, as well as this week's Top 5 rankings. Jaime-Lyn Baggs, Bianca Barbieri and Stefany Santos all scored for Humber.

It was one of two victories at home this week. Humber edged previously fifth-ranked Conestoga 1-0 on Tuesday, thanks to a goal by Keyla Moreno.

Humber nows has a leg up in the race for first place in the OCAA West region. Humber hosts games against No. 5 Redeemer on Wednesday and Mohawk on Friday.

2. Algonquin Thunder (Last Week - 3)
(CCAA Rank - 7)

The defending OCAA bronze medalist Algonquin Thunder (3-0-0) kept its regular season record unblemished with key road victories at Fleming-Peterborough and Durham.

Algonquin blanked Fleming 3-0 on Friday before edging Durham 3-2 on Saturday. Sydney Midwood scored three goals, including a pair against Durham.

Algonquin currently has a three-point lead in the OCAA East standings. Algonquin host games this weekend against Loyalist and Centennial.

3. Fanshawe Falcons (Last Week - 1)
(CCAA Rank - 5)

Fanshawe gave a spirited effort at Humber on Saturday, losing 3-2. Alana Cornet and Nicole Carriere both scored for the Falcons in a losing effort.

Fanshawe opened the week with a 6-0 trumping of Mohawk. Jory-Lynn Uyl scored a pair of goals in the victory.

Fanshawe is in a stretch of three straight road matches. Fanshawe visits No. 4 Sheridan on Wednesday, then Lambton on Friday.

4. Sheridan Bruins (Last Week - 4)

Sheridan (3-0-0) remains status quo this week following a 1-0 win over previously fifth-ranked Conestoga on Saturday.

Nina Mennite scored the game-winning goal for Sheridan.

Sheridan hosts No. 3 Fanshawe on Wednesday in a key OCAA West region game. Sheridan then travels to Niagara on Saturday.

5. Redeemer Royals (Last Week - NR)

Redeemer (3-0-0) is currently one of four teams in the OCAA with three wins and no losses.

Redeemer hosted its first three games of the regular season last week, defeating Niagara 3-0 on Tuesday, Lambton 2-0 on Friday and St. Clair 1-0 on Saturday.

Leesha DeWeerd leads Redeemer with three goals, including two in the victory against Lambton.

Redeemer hits the road this week for a game at No. 1 Humber on Wednesday, followed by a match at Conestoga on Friday.
