HUMBER DROPS OPENER AT WOMEN'S SOCCER NATIONALS

QUEBEC CITY - The Humber Hawks women's soccer team were defeated by Ahuntsic from Quebec by a score of 5-3, in their opener of the 2011 Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Soccer National Championships.

Humber fell behind early in the game as Ahuntsic scored three straight goals. The Hawks responded as Brittany Szcerbakow scored to draw Humber close at 3-1. Before the first half whistle blew the Quebec squad scored yet again and took a 4-1 lead into the locker room.

The Hawks came out fighting and got to within a single goal with 25 minutes to play, as Stephanie Costa and Szcerbakow scored. With all the forward push happening, an Ahuntsic player broke through late and buried one on a breakaway.

Jacynthe Tessier scored four goals for Ahuntsic, and teammate Charlotte Boisclair added one. Humber's Hayley Green and Tessier were named players of the game for their respective teams.

With the loss, especially by a two-goal margin, the Humber team must win and win big to get to a medal game. They will play NAIT, from Alberta on Friday morning. NAIT defeated Ahuntsic 3-2 on Wednesday.
