MOHAWK 12, LAMBTON 1 (FINAL)

The Mohawk women squared their mark at 2-2 with their second victory of the weekend, 12-1 over the visitors. Ashley Hagen scored five times for the Mountaineers, Michelle Little had two, while Shelby Dawdy, Jaclyn Halliday, Melanie Wong, Nicole Douwes and Nicole Roberts, normally a goalkeeper, scored singles. Roberts was sent in for several minutes as an outfield player and she picked the corner with a perfectly placed shot. Sarah Bennett got the lone Lambton marker.

Mohawk co-head coach Renzo Castellani said even though the score was one sided there were other positives to come out of the game. "The team got a chance to move around without the ball, said Castellani. "In soccer it's important to move into space and today we did that very well." The coach noted the day before when his team blanked St. Clair 2-0, there were long stretches where they couldn't buy a goal, but in this contest it seemed every shot was going in, even when they moved defenders up front.

Mohawk's next game is Tuesday (Oct. 4) when Niagara visits Mohawk Sports Park for a 5:00 pm start.
