FANSHAWE WINS BRONZE MEDAL IN OCAA WOMEN'S SOCCER

VAUGHAN, Ont. - Fanshawe College is the 2011 Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) women's soccer bronze medalists after a 2-0 win over Seneca College on Saturday at the Ontario Soccer Centre in Vaughan, Ont.

Fanshawe scored the only goal it needed in the opening minute of the match off the foot of Jory-Lynn Uyl. It marked her third goal of the OCAA post-season.

The Falcons added an insurance marker in the 14th minute as first-year forward Bailey Maxwell booted home a rebound on a corner kick.

Maxwell and Seneca defender Sabrina Henry were named player of the game for their respective teams. Henry is a former all-Canadian playing her final game for the Sting.

Fanshawe finishes its season with an overall record of 9-2-0. Seneca's overall record dropped to 5-2-3 with both losses coming at the OCAA championship.

It marks the third straight year Fanshawe has won a medal in women's soccer. The Falcons won gold in 2009 and silver last season.
