HUMBER, FANSHAWE ADVANCE TO OCAA GOLD MEDAL MATCH

OTTAWA - The Humber Hawks and Fanshawe Falcons will play for OCAA gold on Saturday after both teams won their semifinal matches on Friday at the 2012 OCAA Women's Soccer Championship. The Final Four championship is taking place Friday and Saturday at Algonquin College in Ottawa.

Humber advanced to the gold medal match with a 3-0 win over Centennial in the first semifinal of the day. Fanshawe advanced after a 1-0 win against championship host Algonquin in the second semi-final on Friday. Centennial and Algonquin will play for the bronze medal on Saturday.

The first semifinal of the day went scoreless for the first 73 minutes of play, as it looked as if Centennial was poised for a potential upset of the two-time defending OCAA champions. Humber finally got on the scoreboard on a goal by Nicole Carvalho, which opened the floodgates for the Hawks. Keyla Moreno and Jayde Wiklund-Roach scored goals in the remaining minutes as Humber advanced to its third-straight gold medal game.

The scoring came early in the second match of the day. Alex Chesney scored in the ninth minute for the Falcons, and the score held up for the remaining 81 minutes plus injury time. The outcome sets up a rematch of the 2010 OCAA gold medal match, won by Humber 3-0.

Both games on Saturday will be against divisional rivals. Algonquin defeated Centennial 2-1 during the regular season, while Fanshawe edged Humber 1-0. Fanshawe's win ended Humber's 65-game unbeaten streak in regular season action.

Both Saturday games will be webcast on Sportslive.ca.
