SENECA 8, CAMBRIAN 0

For the Seneca fans in attendance, they were given numerous opportunities to cheer on their team Sunday afternoon at Newnham Field. The Sting exploded for eight goals against the Cambrian Golden Shield, who have now given up 15 goals in just four matches on the season.

Six players found the back of the net for the Sting, who lead the OCAA in goals scored with 12. Andrea Runco and Stephanie Harris each had two apiece as Seneca improved to 2-0-0 on the season.

Runco opened the scoring in the 18th minute with a right-footed kick to the top right corner following a beautiful cross from second year Nicole Forbes. Eight minutes later, Runco struck again with a high floating shot which eluded the Golden Shield keeper.

Natalie Colangelo joined in the scoring with her second of the season before Angela DeCarli struck a curling left foot which bounced off the right post into the net. Nicole Forbes completed the first half scoring in the 41st minute with a 35-yard blast which came down just over the arms of the outstretched keeper into the net.

The second half opened with Seneca once again on the offensive, showing crisp passing and superior ball-handling. Cassandra Nicolodi got her first collegiate goal by showcasing her blazing speed. Nicolodi took a pass and broke away from the defenders for a 30-yard breakaway before finding the back of the net for a 6-0 lead.

The skill of the Sting was on full display this afternoon as Leandra Covello showed off her touch with a perfect cross to Harris for her first of two in the 69th minute. Harris would complete the scoring in the 82nd minute with a left foot strike for the final goal of the match.

Forbes thought she had her second of the match late in the second half, but the goal was disallowed for goalkeeper interference.

The Seneca Sting (2-0-0) will be tested next Saturday as they travel to Algonquin (3-0-0) while Cambrian (0-4-0) will host the Loyalist Lancers (0-0-1), also on Saturday).
