SHERIDAN 3, ST. CLAIR 0

The St. Clair College men's and women's soccer teams travelled to the Toronto area this past weekend to take on some tough competition. The men came away with two huge upset wins while the women dropped both of their matches.
 
In the men's match against Sheridan on Saturday St. Clair came away with a 2-1 win. Jordan Lidia (Cardinal Carter) scored in the 22nd minute to put the Saints up 1-0. Brian Santos (Cardinal Carter) put St. Clair up 2-0 with a goal in the 57th minute of play. The Bruins scored in the 64 minute off of a corner kick to close the gap to 2-1. Joey Plavetic (St. Joseph's) played a great game in net for St. Clair making a couple of huge saves late in the match to secure the win. Sheridan were ranked fifth in Ontario and ninth in Canada heading into weekend play.
 
On Sunday the men played the top ranked Humber Hawks and came away with another huge 1-0 win. St. Clair scored their goal in the 18th minute by Jordan Lidia. Joey Plavetic was outstanding in net in picking up the win and shutout. Midfielder Mo Hamoud (Kennedy) had a great game for St. Clair as well. It is the first time in 20 years that the St. Clair men have defeated Humber.  Humber is currently ranked first in Ontario and fourth in Canada. It was Humber's first loss of the season as their record fell to 3-1. Heading into the match Humber had not given up a goal in three games. St. Clair now has three wins, one loss and one draw on the season.
 
In the women's game on Saturday the Saints lost to the Sheridan Bruins (Oakville) by a score of 3-0. The first half was close with the Bruins scoring in the 35th minute to take a 1-0 lead. Sheridan went up 2-0 in the 62nd minute. The Bruins scored a late goal with only a couple of minutes remaining to make it 3-0. The Sheridan women were ranked fourth in Ontario heading into weekend action. Sheridan is now 4-0 on the season and have yet to surrender a goal.
 
On Sunday the women took on the top ranked Humber Hawks (Etobicoke). The Saints played a strong match but could not generate any offence losing 2-0. The score was deadlocked at 0-0 at halftime. Humber scored two quick goals midway through the second half. Humber is ranked first in Ontario and fourth in Canada. St. Clair now has two wins, two losses and a draw on the season. Humber is now 4-0 on the season.
 
Both teams are next in action on Friday, September 28 when the face the Mohawk Mountaineers at the United Communities Credit Union Complex in Amherstburg. The women kick off at 4:30 p.m. followed by the men at 6:30 p.m.
