MOHAWK 0, ST. CLAIR 0

The St. Clair men's and women's soccer teams hosted the Mohawk Mountaineers from Hamilton on Friday night at the United Communties Credit Union Complex in Amherstburg and came away with an important win and a draw.

In the men's match the Saints were down 1-0 one mintue into the game. Mohawk then went up 2-0 at the eight-minute mark. St. Clair came back quickly on a goal by Brian Santos (Cardinal Carter) to make in 2-1 in the ninth minute. Santos scored again early in the second half during the 58th minute to tie the score up at 2-2. Santos completed the natural hat trick during the 83rd minute to complete the comeback and give St. Clair a 3-2 lead. Mohawk pressed hard in the final few minutes but could not get the equalizer. With the hat trick Santos moved into first place in the OCAA scoring race with six goals in six games. Joey Plavetic made some huge saves in net throughout the entire match. Mohawk's record fell to 3-2 while St. Clair improved to a record of 4-1-1.

The men are next in action on Friday, October 5 when they host the Fanshawe Falcons in Amherstburg at 4:30 p.m. This is shaping up to be a battle for first place in the very tough OCAA West Division as both teams are tied with 13 points for first place.

In the women's match, St. Clair played a great match and tied Mohawk in a scoreless draw. The first half was evenly played as both goalies made some nice saves. The Saints controlled most of the play in the second half but failed to convert on a couple of great chances. Rebecca Singer (General Amherst) was solid in net in picking up the shutout. It was Singer's third shutout of the season and the team's fourth. St. Clair now has 2-2-2 on the season while Mohawk moved to 2-2-1.

The women are next in action on Thursday, October 4 when they host the Fanshawe Falcons in Amherstburg at 4:30 p.m.
