HUMBER 6, MOHAWK 0

ETOBICOKE, Ont. - The Humber Hawks, defending OCAA champions, opened their season on home turf with a dominating 6-0 victory over Hamilton's Mohawk Mountaineers.

The game, which was played on the Humber Valley Field, had all of the festivities that normally surround a home opener, including player introductions, national anthems, the Hawk mascot and the SAA on site giving away Hawk swag.

The 2013 version of the Hawks did not disappoint as they scored early, just four minutes in, on a strike by freshman sensation Keyanna Jackson.

Humber continued to control the game, led by one of the best players in the nation, defender Alora Walcott. Fifth-year veteran Kat Conde once again provide both great play and solid leadership from her goaltending position. At the end of the first half the scoreboard read 1-0 for the home team.

Humber came out afire in the second, scoring five times to turn tight game into a blow-out. It all started with a run by Walcott who was pulled down in the box. Ashley Osorio stepped up and propelled the ball into the corner on the penalty.

With the flood gates now open, Olivia Drake, Corinna Vanderschaaf, Alexandria Kastanis and Vanessa Fera all scored before the final whistle blew. Conde played the entire game, and recorded the shut-out.

The Hawks "Player of the Game" was Drake.

The Hawks will take to the pitch for their second tilt of the season on Saturday afternoon with a road game at Niagara. Kick off is 3 p.m., from Young's Sportsplex.

ETOBICOKE, Ont. - It was only game one, but the three time defending champion Humber Hawks served notice they will be bidding to win another Ontario Colleges Athletic Association women's soccer crown in 2013.

The Hawks whitewashed the Mohawk Mountaineers 6-0 at Humber's North Campus in Etobicoke Wednesday (Sept. 11).

Humber wasted little time taking the lead, as Keyanna Jackson scored in the sixth minute. It was the only goal of the first half. But Ashley Osorio's marker in the 68th minute opened the floodgates for the Hawks, who tallied four more times in the final 20 minutes with Olivia Drake, Corinna Vanderschaaf, Alexandria Kastanis and Vanessa Fera all finding the back of the net.

It was the opening regular season game for both teams.

Mohawk hopes to turn things around in it's next game. The Mountaineers are off to Kitchener Saturday (Sept. 14) to meet the Conestoga Condors at Woodside Park. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m.
