SHERIDAN 5, ST. CLAIR 0

AMHERSTBURG, Ont. - It was tough home opening matches for the St. Clair College Saints soccer teams at the United Communities Credit Union Complex in Amherstburg.
 
In the women's game on Saturday against the Sheridan Bruins (Oakville), the Saints got off to slow start falling down 3-0 early. However the women bounced back and played much better for the rest of the first half but failed to convert on a couple of great chances. Sheridan scored a couple more early in the second half to win the match 5-0. The women are now 0-1 on the season while Sheridan improved to 2-0. The Bruins are ranked fifth in Ontario.

In the men's match against Sheridan on Saturday the Saints ended up losing 3-0 in a great soccer match. The Saints had a couple of early chances to take the lead but failed to take advantage of their chances. Sheridan took the lead in the 18th minute and never looked back. St. Clair had a couple more great chances early in the second half but could not put the ball in the back of the net. The Bruins got a couple of late goals while the Saints were pushing forward to get the equalizer to seal the win. St. Clair now has one loss and one draw on the season so far. Sheridan, who are ranked third in Ontario and 10th in Canada improved to 2-0.
 
Both St. Clair teams are in action next weekend when they are on the road to take on the Mohawk Mountaineers and Niagara Knights on Saturday and Sunday.
 
The Saints next home match is Saturday, Sept. 28 when the face the Conestoga Condors. The women kick off at 2 p.m. followed by the men at 4 p.m.
