CONESTOGA 2, MOHAWK 1

KITCHENER, Ont. - Mohawk fell behind by two goals very quickly, before Patryk Korbut scored a hat trick and the Mountaineers pulled out a 3-2 victory over Conestoga in Ontario Colleges Athletic Association men's soccer in Kitchener Saturday (Sept. 14).

The hometown Condors led 2-0 barely 10 minutes into the contest. It stayed that way until just before half time when Korbut notched his first goal. The second year forward from Barrie tied the game 15 minutes into the second half, then potted the winner about 10 minutes from full time.

Mohawk head coach Richard Bennett said his team never gave up. "We still need to work on some things, but I am pleased with the win," said Bennett.

With the victory, the Mountaineers evened their record at 1-1, while the Condors are now 0-2.

Meanwhile, the Mohawk women's team grabbed an early lead, but couldn't hold it and eventually lost 2-1 to Conestoga. Rookie defender Megan Schuurman of Caledonia put the Mountaineers up 1-0 at 16 minutes. However two second half tallies by the Condors, including one in the 86th minute gave the home side the victory.

Mohawk co-head coach Renzo Castellani was very disappointed with how things turned out. "We played really well," said Castellani. "We created a ton of chances. We had five clear chances and couldn't finish. We also had two goals called back for offside."

Mohawk saw it's record drop to 0-2, while Conestoga has a win and a draw.
