ST. LAWRENCE (K) 1, LOYALIST 0

BELLVILLE, Ont. - Starts to a season don't get much better than this, as the St. Lawrence College women's soccer team defeated the Loyalist Lancers 1-0 on Tuesday, Sept. 17, winning their third consecutive game. More importantly, the team remains undefeated to start the 2013-14 season, and is currently in a three way tie for first overall in the Ontario Colleges Athletics Association (OCAA), with Cambrian and Durham College at nine points. The Vikings do have one game in hand.

"Tonight was not our best effort. We had a rough start but were able to bounce back in the second half," said Vikings head coach Natasha Agaoglu.

The lone goal for the Vikings was scored by fourth-year player, Sydney Midwood. The goal is Midwood's fifth of the season in just three regular season games.

"Tonight's game against Loyalist is a game that I'm glad is now in the past. We ended up with the win and really at the end of the day, that's all that matters. We had lots of unlucky bounces and the field was really bumpy, therefore making it hard for us to play our regular passing game," said Midwood.

Regarding her scoring streak and points, Midwood remains humble about her success crediting her teammates.

"I wouldn't be scoring goals if it weren't for my teammates. There are always many different players involved in any given goal, as the play is worked up right from the goalie."

The Vikings don't have much time to rest as they face the Seneca College Sting on Friday, Sept. 20 at 2:30 p.m. in the SLC Spirit Day Game. The team enters the game looking for redemption as the Sting defeated the Vikings in last year's playoff qualifier game.

"I am personally very excited for Friday's game against Seneca, and I know that other girls who played last year are looking forward to some revenge as well. We know that they will be a strong team, but we are hoping that our home field advantage will give us that extra boost that we need to beat them and become 4-0," said Midwood.
