MOHAWK 2, NIAGARA 0

ANCASTER, Ont. - The Mohawk women's soccer team made it three straight OCAA wins with a 2-0 decision over the Niagara Knights at the Redeemer Sports Complex Wednesday (Sept. 25).

The only goals came in the first 20 minutes from Rachelle DeJong (Ancaster) and Kaleigh Russell (Brantford).

Nicole Roberts and Jenn Lynch shared the shutout as the Mountaineers improved their record to 3-2, while the Knights slipped to 1-3-1.

The news was not as good for the Mohawk men's side which gave up three goals in the first half and fell 4-1 to Niagara. Carlos Williams scored a pair of goals two minutes apart and Erik Greiner added one seven minutes later to put the Knights in the driver's seat.

The Mountaineers were then reduced to 10 men in the 39th minute when Anthony Halm was dismissed for back-to-back yellow cards, each for dissent.

Mohawk actually played better after the sending off and Sokiri Kenedy (Hamilton) got a goal back at 70 minutes.

The Mountaineers continued to press and just missed another goal in the final five minutes when Niagara's Joe D'Eramo cleared off the line. Then at 88 minutes, just after Mohawk appealed for a penalty, Niagara's Austin MacDonell took a pass and broke away to score the fourth goal for the Knights.

Mohawk's record fell to 2-3, while Niagara improved to 2-1-2.
