FANSHAWE 6, NIAGARA 0

LONDON, Ont. - The Fanshawe women's and men's Soccer teams hosted the Niagara Knights on Saturday, Sept. 28 on the Fanshawe Soccer field.  Both teams came to play, shutting out the Knights with scores of 6-0 and 4-0, for the Falcon women and men, respectively.

In the women's match, Fanshawe controlled the tempo from the opening minute and moved the ball well across the middle of the field. In the 31st minute, forward Marisa Oliveira buried the ball in the back of the Knights net, putting the Falcons up 1-0.

That seemed to spark Fanshawe, and just five minutes later, Katie Parker scored again for the Falcons, but she was not done yet. In the second half, Katie scored again in the 48th minute, the 51st minute and the 85th minute, bringing her total to four goals in the game.

Rebecca Liberatore also scored for Fanshawe, and the Falcons went on to win the match 6-0.

A great defensive effort by the Falcon men kept the ball out of Fanshawe's end for the majority of the first half. After four separate corner kicks, Fanshawe's Steve Hepton was able to get his foot on a cross and score, putting the Falcons up 1-0 at the half.

The Falcons dominant midfield effort in the second half seemed to be the difference, as Fanshawe pulled away with goals from Rafael Maximo and Kingsley Ezennaya.

In the 81st minute, Prince Ihekwoabo took advantage of a Niagara turnover and put one more in the back of the net. Fanshawe finished the game with a 4-0 victory.

The Falcons next home game will be Saturday, Oct. 5 versus the Mohawk Mountaineers. The women play at 12 p.m. and the men play at 2 p.m.
