ST. LAWRENCE (K) 2, FANSHAWE 1

LONDON, Ont. - The Fanshawe women's soccer team hosted the St. Lawrence Vikings on Saturday, Oct. 18 in a quarter-final playoff match to determine who would go to the OCAA provincial championship. St. Lawrence won the game with a final score of 2-1.

Fanshawe was first on the scoreboard after a beautiful pass from Falcon Katie Parker was buried into the bottom corner of St. Lawrence's goal by teammate Marisa Oliveira.

The score remained 1-0 after the first half. Two minutes into the second half, a loose ball in front of Fanshawe's net was sent into the back of the goal by St. Lawrence, tying the game 1-1.

Five minutes later, after an unfortunate slip by Fanshawe, the Vikings scored again, and took the lead 2-1.

The Falcons pressed hard for the remainder of the half, and had multiple opportunities to score, but were not able to find the back of the net.

St. Lawrence went on to win 2-1 and will now head to the OCAA provincial championships next weekend.

LONDON, Ont. - Having defeated the La Cité Coyotes 3-0 on Saturday, Oct. 5, the St. Lawrence College (SLC) Vikings women's soccer team qualified for an Ontario Colleges Athletics Association (OCAA) quarter-final playoff game, against the Fanshawe College Falcons.

The Falcons finished their season with a 5-1-2 record, 17 goals for, and five goals against. The successful record earned the Falcons a second-place finish in the OCAA West Division, earning a bye directly into the quarter-finals.

Meanwhile, the Vikings finished their season with a 7-2 record, with 27 goals for and only five against, earning them a third-place finish in the OCAA East Division.

SLC would find themselves down 1-0 at the half, but rallied late in the second to tie the game in the 60th minute courtesy of Caitlyn Dunseath (scoring on her birthday). Megan Simpson would score the go ahead goal shortly after, securing the 2-1 victory, and a spot at the OCAA provincial championship.

"Just like last weekend, the girls played their hearts out for a victory," said Vikings head coach Natasha Agaoglu.

"No single player deserves special recognition for the victory. All the girls played so well. They worked hard on Saturday and deserved the victory."

SLC is one of four teams advancing to the OCAA provincial championship, taking place at Sheridan College. In the final four format, the Vikings will face the 8-0-1 Seneca College Sting, who won their quarter-final game 1-0 over Mohawk College.

The Vikings lost the previous match against the Sting by a score of 2-0.

"In our last game against Seneca, we missed on three opportunities in the first half, and another in the second. We played well in the game, but had we finished on those chances, it would have been a very different outcome," said Agaoglu.

"The girls learned from that game, and bounced back very well. We know we can compete against them, and we'll certainly be looking to give them their first loss of the season."

The date, time, and location of the Vikings vs. Sting match will be released once the details are made available.
