ST. LAWRENCE (K) 3, LA CITE 0

KINGSTON, Ont. - With a third-place finish in the Ontario Colleges Athletics Association (OCAA) East Division, the St. Lawrence College (SLC) women's soccer team hosted the sixth place La Cité Collégiale Coyotes, with the winner moving onto the quarter-finals.

The Vikings got off to a great start, with Diane Davies coming close in the sixth minute, hitting the cross bar from well outside the 16-yard box.

Shortly after, the Vikings would capitalize on a beautiful play with Caitlyn Dunseath sending a great pass to Megan Simpson who would make no mistake in putting the Vikings up 1-0.

After the go ahead goal, the Coyotes would tighten up defensively, not allowing shots to make the net, and clearing any scoring opportunities. However the Vikings strikers would be persistent in their attack, keeping the Coyotes under pressure, with the SLC defenders ensuring the play stayed in the offensive end.

The Vikings conditioning clearly had an effect in the first half, with SLC winning several races to the ball, leading to some great scoring opportunities.

La Cité would get two great chances early in the second half, but Vikings goalkeeper Nicole Gaudet would make some great saves to keep SLC ahead by one.

The Vikings would eventually settle in, and came up with several scoring chances, including a play that saw three quick shots at the Coyotes net. But the La Cité goalkeeper would make three fantastic saves to keep the game within reach.

SLC would be persistent in their attack, and were eventually rewarded with Megan Hutcheson scoring a beautiful floater over the Coyotes goalie to take a two-goal lead. Less than 10 minutes later, Hutcheson scored again to secure the 3-0 victory.

"The girls played great, especially for an early morning start on a long weekend. They approached the game highly motivated for a win, and they did exactly that," said head coach Natasha Agaoglu.

The shutout for Nicole Gaudet was her sixth of the OCAA season.

SLC will now prepare for their OCAA quarter-final game against the Fanshawe College Falcons on Oct. 19 at 12 p.m. The game will take place in London.
