ALGONQUIN 8, DURHAM 0

OTTAWA - The Algonquin Thunder are the No. 2-ranked team in the country for a reason and on Sunday afternoon they showed the Lords why as they shutout Durham by a score of 8-0 in OCAA women's soccer action.

The defending OCAA champions are 3-0-0 to start the season having outscored their opponents 15-0. Durham on the other hand falls to 0-2-1 but have faced two nationally ranked opponents in Seneca and Algonquin.

The Lords started the game out strong holding Algonquin at bay for the first 15 minutes, but the Thunder would eventually string together a couple of goals to take a commanding lead. Injuries would hurt Durham as they fatigued in the late stages of the game, as they travelled to Ottawa with only 13 healthy bodies.

Durham will look to rebound on Tuesday night when they head to Belleville, Ont., to take on the Loyalist Lancers. Loyalist is 0-1-1 to start the season with a loss to Cambrian and tie against Fleming. Game time is 6 p.m.
