HUMBER 4, MOHAWK 0

ANCASTER, Ont. - The Humber Hawks stayed undefeated and snapped Mohawk's three game unbeaten string, with a 4-0 triumph in OCAA women's soccer at the Redeemer Sports Complex in Ancaster on Saturday.

It took 33 minutes for the opening goal as Tara Dawdy jumped on an excellent through ball and fired a low drive into the corner of the net.

It appeared that goal would be the only one of the first half. However, on the final play of stoppage time, the referee's assistant put his flag up for an offside, then quickly waived off that decision. While some Mohawk players hesitated, Humber's Corinna Vanderschaaf kept going and hammered in the second goal on what turned out to be the final kick of the half.

Mohawk came out much better to start the second 45 minutes, but Alexandra Kastanis pretty well decided the issue in the 55th minute and Vanderschaaf rounded out the scoring in the 83rd minute with her second goal of the afternoon.

Tania Sarafino picked up the shutout.

The Mountaineers saw their record dip to 2-3-1, while Humber upped its mark to 5-0-1. Mohawk's next action is Thursday, Oct. 2 at 4 p.m.

The Humber men also scored a 4-0 decision over Mohawk.

Tremaine Nelson scored with a howitzer barely nine minutes into the contest, as he was left totally unmarked on the right flank. It was the only goal of the first half.

Following the break, Jonathan Osorio got loose in the middle of the area in the 56th minute and made no mistake.

Kasra Dehdezi chipped the Mohawk goalkeeper in the 63rd minute and Dino Gardner fired home from close range in the 73rd minute.

Alexander Pothemont and Warley Santos shared the shutout for Humber, which improved to 4-0-2 while the Mountaineers are still looking for a win, at 0-4-2.

Mohawk's next game is at Niagara, Oct. 2, at 6 p.m.
