CAMBRIAN 5, ST. LAWRENCE (K) 1

KINGSTON, Ont. - The SLC women's soccer team was looking for their first home win on Sunday, Sept. 21, when they hosted the 3-1 Cambrian College Golden Shield. After losing their first game of the season to Algonquin, 2-0, the Golden Shield has won three straight, outscoring their opponents 20-1.

Despite hitting the cross bar within the first 10 minutes of the game, the Vikings were bogged down in their own end for the majority of the first half. The SLC defenders would do well under pressure, but the Cambrian strikers would have some great touches on through balls that were sent in.

The quickness of the Cambrian players would lead to two breakaway goals to put the Vikings down 2-0 at the end of the first half.

SLC would open the second half with a great offensive pressure that led to a handball call within the 18-yard box, and a penalty shot of Megan Simpson. The Cambrian goalkeeper would make an impressive read on the penalty kick and make the save.

Cambrian would score their third goal on another breakaway at 64th minute, but just 10 minutes later the Vikings recorded their first home goal of the season on a beautiful cross from Maureen Frost, that would be headed in by Mallory McQueen.

The Vikings tried to rally their moral on the goal but Cambrian would respond with two quick goals and take the game with a 5-1 win.

"Cambrian has some very strong forwards that were able to capitalize on their opportunities," said SLC head coach Natasha Agaoglu. "We had our chances, came close a few times, but were not able to finish."

SLC will play the 2-1 George Brown College Huskies in Toronto on Sept. 27 at 12:30 p.m. The next home game is against Fleming College on Oct. 5.
