MOHAWK 3, LAMBTON 0

SARNIA, Ont. - It was one hot weekend, but the Mohawk women's soccer team made the best of it, with two victories in Southwestern Ontario.

After beating St. Clair Saints 3-2 in Windsor on Saturday, Sept. 23, it was off to Sarnia on Sunday, where they scored a 3-0 victory over the Lambton Lions.

Keagan Curran (Niagara Falls/St. Michaels) opened the scoring in a scramble in front of the Lambton goal. Then Caitlin Laughlin (Waterdown) scored the other two on breakaways.

"All 18 players were involved in what was an even hotter day (than yesterday)," said Mountaineers' co-head coach Michael Castellani. "It was really a solid team effort today. The team comes away with six points on the road."

Castellani had special praise for the exceptional play of midfielder Danielle Datzkiw (Hamilton/Westmount) and Curran up front.

With the win, Mohawk upped its record to 5-1, while Lambton slipped to 0-5.

The Mountaineers' next game will be Saturday, Sept. 30 when they meet St. Clair in a return match at the Redeemer outdoor field. It will kickoff at 2 p.m.
