VAGNINI RETURNS TO LEAD ST. CLAIR WOMEN'S SOCCER PROGRAM

VAGNINI RETURNS TO LEAD ST. CLAIR WOMEN'S SOCCER PROGRAM

WINDSOR, Ont. - The St. Clair College Athletic Department is pleased to announce Steve Vagnini will be returning as the varsity women's soccer head coach. Steve will be heading up both the fall outdoor and the winter indoor teams.

Vagnini was previously the head coach from November 2013 to April 2017. He then moved on to be the head coach of the Windsor Lancers men's team from April 2017 to May 2018.

While with the St. Clair women he won the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) coach of the year in 2015. He also was named the OCAA outdoor soccer coach of the year in 2014, 2015 and 2016. The team's regular season outdoor record during his three year stint was 20-4-4. The women won OCAA outdoor bronze in 2015 which was their first medal in 16 years. The indoor team won OCAA gold in 2014-15 and OCAA silver in 2016-17.

Steve was born and raised in Sault Ste. Marie and graduated from St. Mary's High School.

Vagnini will be replacing Kris Geier who stepped down after the past indoor season. Geier had replaced Gadeer Sobh at the beginning of the indoor season as she had resigned due to personal commitments.

"We are extremely excited to have Steve back leading our women's soccer program. His record and success during his three year term speaks for itself and we know our program is in outstanding hands moving forward," stated Athletic Coordinator Jay Shewfelt.

Director of College Recreational Services Christina Gatto is thrilled to have Vagnini back on board. "We were very pleased with the pool of qualified candidates that applied for the position and are excited in selecting Steve Vagnini as the successful candidate. We know he will continue to grow the program and are confident in Steve's ability as a driven, well rounded and extremely talented coach. It's great to have Steve back at St. Clair College and it will be exciting to watch the upcoming seasons unfold under his leadership."

Vagnini is eager to get started right away. "I can't thank everyone enough at St. Clair for the opportunity to come back to a program that I truly love and missed. The school and its staff and students are a class act and I am proud to be home where I belong. I look forward to carrying on the tradition of winning that St. Clair has established at one of the best soccer facilities in Canada."
